Our Carbon Footprint

Carbon Negative

We are reducing the amount of carbon in the atmosphere by cutting emissions across our products' entire life cycle, and we are investing in forest carbon and renewable energy projects to take us beyond carbon neutral, to carbon negative.

How will we get to carbon negative?

1. We will continue to reduce CO2 emissions across the entire life cycle of our products, and by 2010 our products will require 25% fewer emissions to produce and deliver.

2. By 2010, 50% of our energy will come from renewable sources like wind to power our bottling facility in Fiji and bio-diesel to replace traditional fuels used in transportation.

3. We are investing in forest carbon (e.g., reforestation) and renewable energy projects that prevent the release of carbon into the atmosphere; these add up to at least 120% of our remaining product lifecycle emissions.

We will report annually on our progress in reaching these goals.

To calculate our carbon footprint, we account for emissions from everything it takes to get FIJI Water into our consumers' hands — starting at production of our raw materials and all the way through consumption. ICF International, a global leader in analyzing emissions inventories and providing advice on climate strategy, has independently reviewed and verified our carbon footprint.

To become carbon negative, we are working with Conservation International, a leading conservation organization, to develop a portfolio of verifiable and permanent forest carbon and renewable energy project investments that exceed our product life cycle CO2 emissions by at least 20%. Carbon offsets allow us to take responsibility for our impact right away while we develop our own carbon-reducing projects in Fiji and beyond.
