FIJI Water's total carbon footprint was 85,396 tonnes CO2eq in the base year (July 2006 — June 2007) for all bottles produced. For comparison, annual greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. are about 7,000,000,000 tonnes CO2eq.
Almost 80% of FIJI Water's emissions come from our suppliers' activities, demonstrating the importance of looking at the full supply chain when measuring a product's carbon footprint. In this spirit, we have become the first privately held company ever to join the Carbon Disclosure Project's (CDP) Supply Chain Leadership Collaboration. The CDP is the world's largest investor coalition on climate change. We will work with the CDP to disclose our carbon footprint and help our suppliers to do the same, because measurement is the first key step to managing emissions.
FIJI Water's footprint includes everything in the product lifecycle from raw materials production through consumption, along with sales and administrative activities like commuting, business travel, and office electricity usage.
We used the WRI/WBCSD Greenhouse Gas Protocol to measure the carbon footprint. ICF International, a global leader in analyzing emissions inventories and providing advice on climate strategy, has independently reviewed and verified the carbon footprint.
